2010 Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk PDF Print E-mail

Attention high school athletes: If you register for the Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk on the day of the event (this Saturday), you will receive a discounted rate ($20 for shirt and registration), and you will make your team eligible to win a prize pack of goodies from Movin' Shoes!

The 2010 Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk will take place on August 14, 2010 at Harriet Park in Verona, WI.  Margaret "Peggy" Giesfeldt was known to many as "Mama Goose." She acquired this nickname because her two sons, Matthew and Joseph, were known to their friends as "Goose," a play on the phonetics of their last name (GEESE-felt).

Mama Goose was an inspiration to others even before she began her battle with cancer. A devoted member of her community, Peggy constantly brightened the lives and moods of those fortunate enough to know her. As an active member of her church and a secretary in the Verona Area School District, Peggy took advantage of the many opportunities she had to serve others, and especially directed that service to children.

Dr. Howard Bailey, seen in this video, was Peggy Giesfeldt's oncologist who is with the Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center.  One of his research funds focuses on cancer prevention by testing the benefits of agents such as natural products and vitamins. This year's Mama Goose Run/Walk proceeds will go directly to this fund.  In 2009, over $3000 was raised for cancer research and survivorship.
