Movin' Shoes Remembers Gene Turnipseed |

August 17, 2010 - Last week Gene Turnipseed died from prostate cancer. Gene was a dear friend, a terrific runner and a kind and thoughtful person. I remember Gene chasing me and Tom McCarthy at the old Goodland Park 10K, and I recall chasing Gene through the hills around Mazomanie in the Wild West Days run. When Movin' Shoes needed folks to help out with one of our store moves, from Lakeside Street to South Park, from 604 to 528, Gene was there, passing shoe boxes and helping make the drudgery endurable with his dry wit and limitless spirit. Over the last few years we'd sit at the store and swap cancer stories, tell tales of our strange treatments and laugh at the arc of running lives, as we went from runners to joggers to hobblers, always happy for every step along the way. I am lucky and grateful to have been a friend of Gene Turnipseed. He added good to my life and to the lives of everyone at Movin' Shoes. We wish the best to Karen Hundley, who has been a soulmate to Gene over the years. Gene was a wonderful, caring man and he will not be forgotten.

The 2010 Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk will take place on August 14, 2010 at Harriet Park in Verona, WI. Margaret "Peggy" Giesfeldt was known to many as "Mama Goose." She acquired this nickname because her two sons, Matthew and Joseph, were known to their friends as "Goose," a play on the phonetics of their last name (GEESE-felt).

Drymax Socks now at Movin' Shoes |

Moisture on the skin creates a host of problems; in hot weather it causes blisters and fuels the growth of odor-causing bacteria, and fungal conditions of the skin (Athlete's Foot), and toe nails. In cold/freezing weather, moisture pulls heat away from skin 23 times faster than air, lowering skin temperature so rapidly that wet feet become painfully cold and are much more susceptible to frostbite.
- Dual Layer Sweat Removal System
- Double Layered socks for blister prevention
- Will not wear out after repeated use or launderings
- Help keep feet warmer in cold weather than other fibers
- Active Odor Control with MicroZap antimicrobial additive (not to be confused with an antiperpspirant)
- Lots of college and pro teams wear them
- whites stay crisp and the colors never dull
- Abrasion resistant Drymax and polyster fibers are designed to last a long time
